What's the best way to train a Lab, I have one that not gun shy and has the fetch instinct, but I know nothing about training dogs |

Coming from experience, it is so much better to send them to a good reputable trainer. The cost will definately be an issue, $400+ per month, but the time it will take you to attempt to train your dog will quickly be outweighed. Basics usually take four to five months and an additional month for hand signals, depending on the individual dog. My two were done with basics in three and a half months. Never did hand signals... Hope this helps... Dale |

If the cost is an issue, as it always is with me, and you want to be hands on training pup, find a copy of a DVD entitled "WATER DOG"... it is based on a book of techniques written by Richard Wolters. It breaks everything down in understandable terms, it takes you from the earliest stages of a puppy up to finished training. I am VERY lucky because my Lab DAKOTA has a drive, instinct and love for retrieving birds like I've never seen before in a Lab, therefore it was very easy to get her going.Good luck, if you have any questions during training please ask and I'll help all I can... |
